The Global Leadership Summit is providing accessible and affordable leadership development tools and resources to African leaders facing immense challenges and complexities. Under God’s hand, churches in Africa are growing. The church in Africa not only has responsibility for spiritual growth; it is being challenged to provide resources to combat the overwhelming realities of poverty, HIV/AIDS, political corruption, and the rapidly-growing influx and impact of Islam.
Christian leaders in Asia are seeking fresh strategies to increase the spread of the Gospel across their nations. The densely populated regions of Asia present a complex patchwork of cultural and religious diversity. As a result, corrupt and oppressive governments, poverty and religious restriction are evident. Christians are the minority in most of Asia, but their passion for building the Kingdom is great in spite of oppression and even persecution. The GLS provides access to Christian leadership resources that are otherwise limited. The GLS is gaining momentum in many countries of Asia as leaders in every sector of society are hungry for leadership development training.
With the loosened stronghold of Communism after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and Soviet Union, religious freedom returned to Eastern Europe. Just 25 years later, the volatility of economic and politic structures has brought a return to persecution for religious beliefs for some and concerns for the future for many. Christian leaders need the tools to overcome the challenges of oppression and apathy and bring a sense of stability to the Church before the window of freedom closes again.
Historically the church in Latin America holds considerable power and exercises its influence throughout society. Yet in many cases it has ignored the needs of the people and has lost sight of its purpose to share the message of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ. However, in some regions there is a strong resurgence of evangelical churches that are committed to bringing hope and light to their communities. Many leaders in Latin America only speak Spanish and need resources in their own language.
The Willow Creek Association team often meets with leaders who long to have access to the GLS and Christian leadership resources. Their leadership development is limited by lack of availability, cultural restraints, oppression and even persecution. We serve these courageous leaders by providing leadership tools where it’s needed most. Leaders from Middle Eastern nations closed to Christian leadership development often attend the GLS at neighboring countries.
The Global Leadership Summit is a two-day event that is telecast LIVE from Willow’s campus near Chicago every August to more than 400 locations in North America. Throughout the fall, Summit events take place in an additional 400+ cities, 120 countries—translated into more than 55 languages.
The community of leaders in Oceania is committed to advancing the Kingdom of God on earth throughout Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea. They believe it is their responsibility to help fuel the passion and sharpen leadership skills in an effort to create the future God has imagined for this region, and beyond.
